CEE’s 2023 Student Video Contest

In celebration of Economic Education Month this October, we invite you and your students to participate in CEE’s 2023 Student Video Contest. Give your students the chance to think about the many cool and interesting ways economics is part of their lives and the city or town they live in, while showing off their economics smarts and creativity in CEE’s student video contest!  The question: “What economic advice would you give to your mayor?” Contest Details Videos must be 60 seconds or less. Entries must be submitted by teachers, parents or guardians on behalf of their students. There is no limit on the number of videos a teacher may submit for their class. Videos may feature one or multiple students. This contest is open to K-12 students. All entries are due: on October 18, 2023, 11:59 PM ET. Stock Market Fall and Year Games are Open

The Fall and Year Games are now open for trading! Some important deadlines to remember: Fall Game: 10/13: Registration closes. 10/31: Last day to add or remove teams. 11/3: All teams must have made a trade by this date in order to be eligible for end-of-competition awards. 12/1: All teams must be paid in order to be eligible for end-of-competition awards. 12/15: End of trading. Awards will be determined at close of business.   Year Game: 10/27: Registration closes. 12/1: Last day to add or remove teams. 12/15: All teams must have made a trade by this date in order to be eligible for end-of-competition awards. 1/31/2024: All teams must be paid in order to be eligible for end-of-competition awards. 4/19/2024: End of competition. Governor’s Challenge 2023

Fall 2022 Stock Market Game Winners

The University of Mary Washington Center of Economic Education partakes in the Stock Market Game (SMG) through the Virginia Counsel of Economic Education. The Stock Market Game is a game that teaches younger students (grades 4-12) how to save/invest using stocks/bonds. During the game students compete by investing $100,000 in an online portfolio. The Stock Market Game also helps introduce students to the world of economics. Congratulations to all the Fall 2022 Stock Market Game UMW region winners! The regional high schools top 3 rankings were swept by Culpeper County High School, all advised by Mrs. Tewari. A special congratulations to the team members of VA_18_zz456, who came in first place and ended the game with a total equity of $104,430.59. Team VA_18_zz508 and team VA_18_zz457 placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Investing in an NBA Team- virtual event 10/27/2022

Steve is also co-owner and co-chairman of the Serie A professional football club, Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio. History of Bankruptcy in the United States

On November 17th from 6 PM - 7 PM in the Digital Auditorium (HCC 136), Dr. Hansen will be providing a presentation on the Economic History of Bankruptcy in the United States. This presentation is inspired by Bankrupt in America: A History of Debtors, Their Creditors, and the Law in the Twentieth Century (2020), which Dr. Hansen co-authored with Professor Mary Eschelbach Hansen.
