Lambda Pi Eta Honor Society
Lambda Pi Eta (LPE) is the official academic honor society of the National Communication Association with more than 450 active chapters nationwide. Since its founding in 1985, the purpose behind LPE has been to reward outstanding scholastic achievement, and stimulate interest in the study and practice of communication. The name “Lambda Pi Eta” symbolizes the foundations of persuasion described by Aristotle: Logos meaning logic, Pathos relating to emotion, and Ethos defined as character credibility and ethics. Membership in LPE provides students with the opportunity to attend academic conferences, network with fellow students of communication, and receive professional development training.
The UMW chapter of LPE was established in 2016, and new members are inducted at the end of each Spring semester. To be eligible for induction, students must satisfy all of the following requirements:
- Complete 60 semester credit-hours total
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0
- Maintain at least a 3.5 GPA for all CDS courses
- Complete 12 credit-hours in communication courses
- Be enrolled as a student in good standing with the University.
Those interested in LPE membership should contact the 2024-2025 faculty advisor, Dr. Emily Crosby (ecrosby@umw.edu).
