Services focus on fostering independence and connection by increasing each child’s communication, social, and adaptive skills through 1:1 therapy sessions with a Registered Behavior Technician under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Spectrum believes in a collaborative approach to treatment and works closely with others on the child’s treatment team, including teachers, other service providers, and parents. Every day, our team turns small moments into lifelong breakthroughs: a first word spoken, a new friendship formed, a smile shared. That’s the spirit of Spectrum—a place where purpose meets progress, and where leadership is learned through service.<\/p><p>Successful interns are considered priority candidates for paid part-time RBT roles while finishing their degree and are fast-tracked for full-time employment post-graduation, with access to advanced leadership positions, higher education partnerships, and BCBA certification paths.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-duties\">Duties<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Participate in ongoing training provided by BCBA\/BCaBAs on the implementation of ABA techniques utilized to increase skill acquisition and reduce maladaptive behaviors.<br>Implement individualized treatment plans and behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and\/or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst.<br>Provide direct behavioral services to clients under the supervision of a BCBA\/BCaBA, serving as a role model for ethical and effective practice.<br>Collect and manage data and complete comprehensive session notes using industry-standard systems.<br>Participate in team leadership workshops and collaborate in client treatment team meetings (including parent meetings and professional provider collaboration) to develop a holistic understanding of care.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pay: This is a paid internship. Please contact the internship coordinator to find out the current hourly pay rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pre-requisites\">Pre-Requisites <\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum of 10 hours per week commitment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship <a href=\"https:\/\/cas.umw.edu\/psychology\/experiential-learning\/obtaining-an-internship-in-psychology\/\">requirements<strong>.<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-mandatory-pre-service-steps-all-costs-covered-by-spectrum\"><strong>Mandatory Pre-Service Steps (all costs covered by Spectrum):<\/strong><\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Completion of background check, central registry check (for CPS), and a clean driving record check.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete HIPAA Training and Mandated Reporter Training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CPR\/First Aid Certification<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) Certification<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Note on RBT Certification:<\/strong> RBT Certification entails a 40-hour online training that must be completed prior to starting the internship. The training is paid for by the agency, but you will not be paid for your time being trained (and this training does not count toward your internship hours). They deliver compassionate, culturally responsive care in a supportive clinical setting, emphasizing measurable outcomes and continual assessment. By collaborating closely with families and caregivers, their team of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) and behavior technicians offers a continuum of services including in-clinic ABA therapy and flexible consultation sessions to practical and in-home family support designed to empower children and their families to thrive together.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-duties\">Duties<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Engage in ongoing training and supervision with a BCBA\/BCaBA to apply evidence-based ABA strategies (e.g., DTT, NET, FCT) that build desired skills and reduce interfering behaviors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement individualized treatment plans based on functional assessments, using ABA techniques such as prompting, reinforcement, antecedent interventions, and extinction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collaborate with the treatment team, including parents, other providers (e.g., speech and occupational therapists), and schools, to ensure consistency and coordination across settings.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide direct ABA services in one-on-one or small-group settings while accurately collecting data to guide treatment decisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Maintain and review data on skill acquisition and behavior goals, share session notes and graphs, and adjust programs with guidance from a BCBA\/BCaBA.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pay: This is a paid internship, contact the agency to find out the current hourly pay rate (which differs during and after training).<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-agency-requirements\">Agency Requirements<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Minimum of 10 hours per week<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete HIPAA Training <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>CPR\/First Aid Certification (paid for by PCABA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean Background Check (paid for by PCABA)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Completion of RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) Certification (paid for by PCABA)<\/li>\n<\/ul><p><strong>Note:<\/strong> RBT Certification requires a 40-hour online training course that must be completed before commencing the internship. The Grove offers a calm and modern environment designed to support healing and recovery for adults aged 18 and older. They provide intensive residential treatment for individuals with a range of psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, depression, PTSD, schizophrenia, and co-occurring substance use disorders. Treatment is personalized and evidence-based, incorporating therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Polyvagal Therapy (PVT) and Brainspotting. Our Resource Team partners with faculty to provide students with the opportunity to discover who they are in a nurturing, safe environment while becoming independent learners.  The Learning Resource Center provides opportunities for students in PK through grade 5 to learn in individual sessions or small group meetings. Our Resource Team partners with faculty in all divisions (LS, MS, US) to provide students with the opportunity to discover who they are in a nurturing, safe environment while becoming independent learners within our challenging college-prep curriculum. Academy’s School Counselor is responsible for providing short-term counseling services to students and for developing proactive programming for various grade levels at the school (PK3 through grade 12). Social Services provides comprehensive social services to the Fredericksburg community to meet the basic needs of individuals and families and to protect children and adults from abuse, neglect and exploitation. A student intern would have the opportunity to learn about both eligibility and services. Students interested in this internship should start the application process approximately 3 months prior to the semester they intend to intern to allow sufficient time for all paperwork to be processed. id=\"h-required-courses\">Required Courses<\/h4><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PSYC 211 – Psychopathology <strong>or <\/strong>PSYC 201- Social Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSYC 233 – Adult Development<\/li>\n<\/ul><h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"h-recommended-courses\">Recommended Courses<\/h4><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PSYC 242 – Psychology of Personality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSYC 315 – Foundations of Clinical Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SOCG 332 – Introduction to Social Welfare<\/li>\n<\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-assessment\">Assessment<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grade is based on on-campus
