Stafford Early Autism Services

Stafford Early Autism Services provides clinic-based ABA services to children between the ages of 18 months and 12 years old in Stafford, VA. Services focus on increasing each child’s communication, social and adaptive skills through 1:1 therapy sessions with a Registered Behavior Technician under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. SEAS also believes in a collaborative approach to treatment and works closely with others on the child’s treatment team including teachers, other service providers and parents.

Duties:

  • Participate in ongoing training provided by BCBA/BCaBAs on implementation of ABA techniques utilized to increase skill acquisition and reduce maladaptive behaviors
  • Implement individualized treatment plans and behavior intervention plans under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and/or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst
  • Participate in or observe various meetings to collaborate with client treatment teams including parent meetings, collaboration meetings with other providers and IEP meetings.
  • Provide direct behavioral services to clients under the supervision of a BCBA/BCaBA
  • Collect data and complete session notes

Agency Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 hours per week
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (paid for by SEAS)
  • Clean Background Check (paid for by SEAS)
  • Complete HIPAA Training
  • Complete Mandated Reporter Training
  • Completion of RBT (Registered Behavior Technician) Certification (paid for by SEAS)
    • Note: RBT Certification entails a 40 hour online training that must be completed prior to starting the internship. The training is paid for by the agency but you will not be paid for your time being trained (and this training does not count toward your internship hours). After the online training you will receive additional in person training/shadowing experience which will both be paid and count toward your internship hours. It is expected that you will pass the RBT assessment after the in-person training is complete.

 Pre-Requisites

Must meet all UMW and Department of Psychological Science internship requirements.

  1. Required courses:
    • PSYC 231 – Infant and Child Development or PSYC 232 – Adolescent and Emerging Adult Development
    • PSYC 253 – Fundamentals of Learning and Motivation
  2. Recommended courses:
    • PSYC 211 – Psychopathology
    • PSYC 320 – Psychology of Exceptional Children and Youth

Assessment

  • 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)
  • Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
