This internship involves working with Stafford Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric Olsen. The Commonwealth’s Attorney represents the people of Stafford in prosecuting criminal cases such as felonies (e.g. murder, rape, robbery), misdemeanors, and violations of local ordinances (e.g. traffic offenses). NOTE: Interns must be able to dedicate 1-2 full days of work to this internship per week. Smart Ears

Smart Ears offers intensive auditory verbal therapy to infants, toddlers and children with hearing loss with an emphasis on family involvement. The majority of the patients have received cochlear implants or hearing aids and are developing a spoken language. Intern supervisor Pratibha Srinivasan works all day from Friday to Sunday and often on Thursday so interns need to be able to work on weekends. Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center

Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center provides child abuse victims with a child-friendly, community-oriented, facility-based program. At Safe Harbor, professionals from multiple agencies come together to address abuse in a way that honors the child’s need for safety, dignity, and privacy, thereby reducing trauma and preventing further victimization of the child. Children are interviewed at Safe Harbor using a forensic interview process utilizing the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) approach. The MDT includes law enforcement, Child Protective Services, a Commonwealth Attorney, a forensic nurse, a victim advocate, a mental health therapist, and Safe Harbor staff. The collaborative approach and follow-up services offered through Safe Harbor ensure child-focused services where the child’s needs are the main priority. Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault

The Rappahannock Council Against Sexual Assault (RCASA) is a private, non-profit agency that provides sexual violence response and awareness services in the city of Fredericksburg and the surrounding counties of Caroline, King George, Stafford, and Spotsylvania. Two main types of services are provided: direct client services and education and public awareness. RCASA offers a number of different internship opportunities. Interns can focus on counseling (e.g. support groups, hotline work), court advocacy, educational outreach (community- and/or school-based), research, program development and evaluation, or some combination of these. This internship is for a teaching assistant who will help teachers with their classes of children aged 2-6.
