disAbility Resource Center – Wednesday Afternoon Living Group

The disAbility Resource Center assists people with disabilities to live as independently as possible by providing them, those who support them, and the community with information, education, and resources.  The Wednesday Afternoon Living group includes adults with different disabilities of different ages.  This interactive group provides information about independent living skills, budgeting, employment, and advocacy.  This group also participates in social and recreational activities.


  • Working with staff to develop curriculum for group meetings
  • Working with staff to prepare materials for group meetings
  • Helping to facilitate weekly meetings of the Wednesday Afternoon Living (WAL) group
  • Helping to arrange participants transportation to and from meetings
  • Assisting in organizing hard and electronic resources
  • Working with staff on other non-profit tasks related to include dRC awareness activities (organizing materials, making phone calls, electronic organization of material, etc.) as needed

Intern must be available on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 to 4:30pm


  1. 12 hours of Psychology beyond PSYC 100 – General Psychology
  2. Required courses:
    • PSYC 211 – Abnormal Psychology
    • PSYC 232 – Developmental Psychology: The Adolescent and Adult
  • Recommended course:
    • PSYC 320 – Psychology of Exceptional Children and Youth
    • PSYC 315 – Foundations of Clinical Psychology
    • PSYC 201 – Social Psychology


  • 42 hours of work per credit hour (most interns do 3 credits with 126 hours of work)  
  • Grade is based on on-campus supervision, agency evaluation, reflective journal, and a final paper
