Atalay Scholarship in Physics<\/strong> &#8212; <strong>Total average award budget $1,400 *<\/strong>\u00a0Rising junior or senior majoring in physics. Recipients must be US citizen\u00a0 or permanent resident and have minimum cumulative GPA 2.5 and 3.0 in their major. <em>Applicants should complete the Major GPA section of the application.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>John Cope &#8217;83 Memorial Scholarship<\/strong> &#8212; <strong>Total average award budget $1,400*<\/strong> Students who plan to major in Biology, Chemistry or Physics.\u00a0<strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recipients must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><b>Peggy Ellis Gill &#8217;53 Scholarship in Science \u2013 Total average award budget $2,000*<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Chemistry, biology, physics, environmental science, or geology majors. Candidates must be residents of Virginia for at least two years and have demonstrated financial need.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><b>Paula O&#8217;Gorman Rimnac &#8217;47 Scholarship \u2013 Total average award budget $2,000*<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Declared majors in a life science, including biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental sciences.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jepson Scholars Program<\/strong> &#8212;Program developed by UMW faculty and funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to address financial burdens and enhance the undergraduate experience for academically talented students interested in pursuing a major in Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, or Physics. This program includes\u00a0<strong>two paid, hands-on research experiences<\/strong>\u00a0that will help students develop skills for careers and post-graduate studies in the natural sciences. Ten scholars will be selected for matriculation in 2018-19, and another 10 for matriculation in 2019-20. Preference is given to students who apply Early Action by November 15 and who have demonstrated need as determined by the FAFSA. More details can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.umw.edu\/admissions\/jepson-scholars-program\/\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Glenn and Mary Fredman Downing &#8217;59 Scholarship<\/strong> &#8212;This scholarship is for students majoring in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) related field and who are at risk of being unable to finish their undergraduate studies at UMW due to a financial setback. Glenn and Mary Fredman Downing &#8217;59 generously established this non-endowed fund in 2014. Awards are contingent upon future contributions from the donor(s).
