Individual Study Opportunity at Belmont

Gari Melchers Home and Studio is starting a new collections program that will be used to document, archive and manage the natural, archaeological, decorative and built objects located in the gardens and grounds of the 28 acre estate. The museum is seeking a student to help start this program from scratch. The student would accession objects into PastPerfect version 5, and add the history, documents, and curatorial information . Each object would also be linked to an electronic map that places the objects in GIS. PastPerfect or similar archival software experience, and GIS knowledge is preferred. The student must have access to transportation to the estate which is located in Falmouth, VA, about 3 miles from the main campus. Traditional Trades Fair at Stratford Hall

May 21, 2011, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Stratford Hall, Westmoreland County, Virginia Stratford Hall is hosting a Traditional Trades Fair on Saturday, May 21st. There will be demonstrations of 18th-century skills in boat building, dress making, stone cutting and more. The Stratford Dining Room will be open and there will also be food vendors on site. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for age 5 and under. A tour of the Great House is included in the ticket price.
