Graduate Program Talk

Interested in attending graduate school? Would you like to major in Public History? Representatives from West Virginia University will be making a presentation on their Public History graduate program Thursday October 28! Julia Costello Lecture

On Wednesday, November 3, Julia Costello, co-author of The California Missions: History, Art, and Preservation, will come to the University of Mary Washington to lecture. Her book is the winner of the 2010 Historic Preservation Book Prize. In 1988, the Center for Historic Preservation established the Book Prize, which is annually awarded to a book that has made a significant contribution to the field of historic preservation in the United States. Costello holds a Ph.D in archaeology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She is recognized as an expert on archaeology and cultural resources in the Western United States, with an emphasis in the California Missions. Please come out to support her talk! 2011 Book Prize Call for Submissions

The Center for Historic Preservation at The University of Mary Washington seeks nominations for its 2011 Historic Preservation Book Prize.  Established by the Center in 1988, the Historic Preservation Book Prize is awarded annually by a jury of preservation professionals to the book deemed to have made the most significant contribution to the field of historic preservation in the United States.  In making its selection, the jury focuses on books, which break new ground or contribute to the intellectual vitality of the preservation movement.  Entries may come from any of the disciplines that relate to the theory or practice of historic preservation.  Nominations may be made by any source. In order for a book to be eligible for the 2011 Historic Preservation Book Prize, it must be first available in the United States between January 1, and December 31, 2010.
