BSN Admissions Criteria and Application

Admissions Requirements for the BSN Completion Program at UMW:

The Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) degree is designed as a completion program for registered nurses (RNs). All applicants are required to have attained their RN licensure and successfully completed either an accredited associate degree program or diploma program prior to being admitted to the BSN Completion Program. All entering students must hold a current, unencumbered RN license which permits them to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

To apply, visit the application menu, click on Application for Undergraduate Degree Completion Programs (BLS, BSN), and follow the instructions for creating an account.

Application Dates (suggested):

Fall – April 1

Spring – October 15

Summer – March 1

The applicant must submit the following items to be considered for admissions to the program:

  1. A copy of a current, unencumbered RN license which permits them to practice nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  2. An official transcript from each college or university attended, including an official transcript awarding an associate or diploma degree or diploma from an accredited school. Applicant’s must have attained a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in undergraduate study.*
  3. A resume or CV.

*If an applicant’s undergraduate GPA is less than 3.0, his/her application will be reviewed by the BSN Completion Program admissions committee. In addition, the application must include the following:

  • Two satisfactory academic and/or professional recommendations (recommended)
  • An interview with the admissions committee, if requested

All three of the required items listed must be received by the admissions office before a decision can be made. The admissions office will notify applicants by letter. Following acceptance, the student will be contacted by the director of the BSN Completion Program for advisement and registration.
