SERNEC is a consortium of over 200 herbarium in the southeastern United States that provides over 4.5 million images and more than 150 years of botanical data online for open access. This grant awards UMW with $19,811 to finish the digitization, metadata transcription and specimen geo-referencing of the vascular plant collection. In collaboration with Dr. Wynn, students currently conduct various research projects and exhibits on specimens in the collection and work to repair, image, geo-reference and enter specimen metadata in SERNEC. The position is with the University of Colorado-Boulder but<br>\nwill be stationed out of Moab, UT. Primarily a field position, the work<br>\ninvolves ecological monitoring of fuel reduction and active seeding<br>\ntreatments in Pinyon-Juniper (P-J) woodlands on Bureau of Land Management<br>\n(BLM) lands. The fuel reduction treatments were initiated approximately 1-8<br>\nyears prior and involved cutting the overstory P-J woody biomass and<br>\nspreading it across the soil surface. Dolby, Associate Professor of Biology, earned a Ph.D. (1998) in zoology from The Ohio State University, after earning an M.S. (1993) in zoology from Colorado State University and a B.A. in biology (1990) from Appalachian State University. His publications include articles in Behavioral Ecology, The Auk, The Condor, Animal Behavior and Journal of Field Ornithology. Dr. Dolby\u2019s research focuses on avian behavior and physiological ecology. In 2010, Dr. Dolby and Deborah O\u2019Dell, associate professor of biology, were awarded a research grant by the Virginia Society of Ornithology for their joint project \u201cEnzyme Immunoassay quantification of Heat Shock Protein 60\u201d and its application to avian conservation biology. He has presented his research at conferences including a recent joint meeting of the Association of Field Ornithologists, the Wilson Ornithological Society and the Cooper Ornithological Society. Dr. Dolby is a member of the Virginia Society of Ornithology and the American Ornithologists\u2019 Union.
