MINOR IN ARABIC STUDIES

If you have a deep interest in pursuing Arabic and want to advance in your study of the language and culture, you might want to consider a minor in Arabic Studies. Advanced study of the Arabic language and its related culture can dramatically enhance your future career opportunities. A minor in Arabic Studies may enhance majors in Political Science, International Relations, Religious Studies, and History.

Completion of the minor requires 18 credits in applicable courses.

Required courses (12 credits) include:
ARAB 201: Intermediate Arabic (3)
ARAB 202: Intermediate Arabic (3)
ARAB 301: Advanced Arabic (3)
ARAB 302: Advanced Arabic (3)
Native or heritage speakers or any student who places above the 202 level will be required to take 2 additional elective courses.

Electives courses (6-12 credits) include:
ARAB 310: Topics in Arabic Culture (3)
ARAB 351: Classical Arabic Literature in Translation (3)
ARAB 352: Modern Arabic Literature in Translation (3)
ARAB 491, 492: Independent Study Arabic (3-6)
RELG 210: Islam
HIST 383: Islamic Civilization I
GEOG 304: Geography of the Middle East
