The UMW Faculty Brass perform a concert of American Music at Market Square behind the Fredericksburg Area Museum

Since its inception in 2009, The University of Mary Washington Faculty Brass Quintet has performed for a wide variety of audiences and dignitaries across the region. With performers who are full-time or adjunct professors, The UMW Brass Quintet performs at official university ceremonies as well as for community events.

The UMW Brass Quintet has performed for a wide variety of audiences that include a Memorial Day concert at the Fredericksburg Confederate Cemetery, a concert in downtown Market Square, and Christmas shows at local shopping centers. The Quintet performs regularly for UMW’s Graduate School Commencement exercises, and is called upon to provide official music for Presidential Inaugurals.

Each year, the quintet performs a full length recital for the public. The repertoire for the ensemble includes over 100 selections from all eras and genres of classical music as well as a variety of popular music, jazz, Broadway, and works for children’s concerts. The UMW Brass Quintet’s library also includes historic music from the American Civil War which the ensemble enjoys performing for sesquicentennial events.
