Music Ed Requirements

Music majors seeking public school teaching licensure in music must obtain a complete outline of requirements for the “Choral/Vocal”, “Band”, or “Strings” license in their first semester of attendance at the College. A licensure manual for music majors is available from the department chairperson. Additionally, concurrent contact must be made with the College of Education registering the intent to seek licensure.

Private Instruction:

7 credits of major performance lessons
5 credits of secondary performance lessons
7 credits of ensemble courses

Theory/Composition:

MUTH 369; Orchestration (3 cr) or MUTH 483; Composition (3 cr)

Conducting:

MUPR 347; Choral Conducting (3 cr)
MUPR 348; Instrumental Conducting (3 cr)

History:

MUHL 368; History of Jazz (3 cr)

Music Education:

MUED 100; Introduction to Music Education (3 cr)
MUED 491A; Individual Study (2 cr)
MUED 491B; Individual Study (2 cr)
