Fall 2011

  • UMW mathematics major Kathryn Dillinger won second place for her poster presentation at the Shenandoah Undergraduate Mathematics and Statistics (SUMS) conference held at James Madison University on Saturday, October 22.  Her poster, titled Profiting with Options Using the Black-Scholes Equation, details her work completed during the Summer Science Institute of 2011 under the guidance of Dr. Leo Lee.

Summer 2011

  • Congratulations to Ryan Vaughn who won second place for his presentation at the Jepson Summer Science Institute’s annual symposium. Ryan’s work is in the area of topology under the guidance of Dr. Randall Helmstutler.

Spring 2011

  • Our graduating senior Kevin Doubleday was awarded “Best Student Presentation” on April 16, 2011 at the MD-DC-VA Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America. Kevin’s project was titled “Application of Markov Chains to Stock Trends” and was completed as part of an honors project in mathematics under the direction of Dr. Julius Esunge.
