Position: Associate at Dorsey Law Firm

Field: Law

Graduated: 1984

As an American Studies major at Mary Washington, I had the opportunity to intern in my senior year with Senator Paul Sarbanes (D-MD). I was able to interact with the staff and attend hearings, among other things. My work there meant that I had the opportunity to watch Senator Ted Kennedy question Edwin Meese during his confirmation hearing to be Attorney General.

Following graduation I attended University of Baltimore School of Law. After law school I started working at the Dorsey Law Firm, in Leonardtown, Maryland where I have been for over 20 years practicing primarily in workers’ compensation and Social Security Disability. In addition, I have done a great deal of volunteering in the community. In the past I have served on the St. Mary’s County Cable Advisory Board, the St. Mary’s County Teen Center Advisory Board, the Southern Maryland Parrothead Club, and on the Board of Directors for the St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission (Metcom). I currently serve on the St. Mary’s County Adult Public Guardianship Review Board and the St. Mary’s County Commission for Women. I am also involved with the League of Women Voters of St. Mary’s County. In addition to these volunteer activities, I am proud to be on the Board of Directors of the St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League (SMAWL), an all-volunteer animal rescue and welfare organization. Being able to rescue companion animals and to assist the public through our many outreach programs is very fulfilling. My American Studies major at Mary Washington gave me a wonderful education and helped prepare me for the wide variety of volunteer opportunities I have had the honor to partake in.
