Call for Proposals: Preservation Conference on Automotive Heritage

The Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) and the Historic Preservation & Community Planning Program at the College of Charleston are pleased to announce the following call for papers for an international conference on the preservation of automotive heritage. “Putting Preservation on the Road: Protecting Our Overlooked Automotive Heritage in the Twenty-first Century” will be held from October 20-22, 2016 at the Historic Vehicle Association Research Laboratory in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest Field School

From May 15-May 28, Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest will be holding its 2016 Architectural History/Architectural Restoration Field School. The program will teach 10 participants an overview of the philosophy, process, and techniques for museum-quality architectural restoration and conservation. This year, the history of Thomas Jefferson and his villa retreat, architectural investigation, documentation, and restoration techniques will be covered. 2016 David W. Wright Scholarship

The National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges (NSPCB) is now accepting applications for the 2016 David W. Wright Scholarship. David W. Wright was the NSPCB president from 1986 until 2013. Mr. Wright strongly advocated the preservation of covered bridges with historic integrity in mind. The scholarship is to encourage students to pursue degrees leading to careers in bridge preservation, repair, and/or restoration. Awards may be offered for up to $1000 each. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate historic preservation program in an accredited institution, such as UMW. Applicants who aren't enrolled in a historic preservation program but can show that they are still interested in historic bridge preservation are also able to apply. All applications must be received in full by April 15, 2016 by mail or an email attachment. Applicants will hear back by May and winners will receive their awards in July.
