Mini-Symposium

Come one, come all! On February 18th the Historic Preservation department will be hosting a mini-symposium called "Research Perspectives on Historic Virginia Kitchens: Architecture, Slavery and Interpretation". It will be held in Combs 237 starting at 10 AM and ending at 4 PM with a tour of the Mary Washington House kitchen led by Professor Spencer! There will be three paper presentations from Professor Sanford, Professor Kelley Deetz (from Randolph College) and Chris Young & Erika deBroekert with time for questions and answers. Afterwards a mac-and-cheese cook off will occur which you won't want to miss. If you would like to participate and win a prize or bragging rights, please contact Sharon Hale or Prof. Smith. But be aware that there are not full kitchen facilities in the department, so only crock pots and microwavable items can be preheated prior to lunch. Study Abroad in Paris

Still need your experiential learning to graduate? Are you an out-of-state student who doesn't want to pay extra tuition for studying abroad? Have you ever wanted to go to Paris? Now is your chance! In July Professor Smith will be teaching a Historic Preservation class in France. This six credit course will be taught in English, although it will be optional to take a French class during your stay, and it will count as an elective towards your degree. Information Session for Study Abroad in Paris

Have you ever wanted to Study Abroad in Paris? Well now is your opportunity! The Historic Preservation department's own Dr. Andrea Smith is offering a Historic Preservation class in Paris this July. This class will be worth six credits and is taught in English so learning French is not required. Tuition will also be the same for out of state and in state students.
