Mary Bortnyk Rigsby, Professor of English, earned a Ph.D. (1991) and an M.A. (1985) in literature, after having received a B.A. (1976) in English from Temple University. Dr. Rigsby is an expert in the area of 19th-century American literature, with a particular emphasis on women writers and feminist criticism. Her other areas of expertise include literary theory, the teaching of writing and faculty development in teaching. Dr. Rigsby is a member of the Modern Language Association and the National Council of Teachers of English. She is an Advanced Placement faculty consultant and an expert on the evaluation of student writing. Most recently, Dr. Rigsby co-presented “Busting Walls and Overcoming Blahs: Knotty Problems and Speed Dating” at the Teaching Professor Conference.
