Jangwoon Lee

Jangwoon Lee, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, earned a Ph.D. (2008) in applied mathematics from Iowa State University and a M.S. (2001) in mathematics from Sogang University in Seoul, Korea. Dr. Lee is an expert in differential equations and numerical analysis.
Dr. Lee presented the talk “Error Estimates of Stochastic Optimal Neumann Boundary Control Problems” at the joint meeting of the Korean and American mathematical societies. In addition, he presented the talk “Mathematical Analysis of Models” and the poster “On Solving a Boundary Control Problem Using the Domain Decomposition Method” at the US-Korea Conference on Science, Technology, and Entrepreneurship. He also gave a lecture series titled “Stochastic PDE: Uncertainty, Representation, Expansions, Analysis, Optimization, and Computation” at Ajou University in Korea.
He had the article “A Robin-Robin Non-Overlapping Domain Decomposition Method for an Elliptic Boundary Control Problem” published in the International Journal of Numerical Analysis and Modeling (2011) and two articles, “Finite Element Approximations of Stochastic Optimal Control Problems Constrained by Stochastic Elliptic PDEs” and “Error Estimates of Stochastic Optimal Neumann Boundary Control Problems” accepted for publication in the Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications (2010) and the SIAM Journal on Numerical Analysis (2011), respectively.
In 2007, Dr. Lee received the J.J.L. Hinrichsen Applied Mathematics Award and in 2008 he received the Graduate College Teaching Excellent Award, both from Iowa State University. From the University of Mary Washington, he received many internal grants and a 2012-2013 Jepson Fellowship given to outstanding junior faculty members each year. He has served as a referee for several research journals and has served as a judge for the Mathematical Association of America Undergraduate Poster Session. Dr. Lee is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association, the Mathematical Association of America and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.
