John T. Morello, Associate Provost, earned a Ph.D. (1979) in speech communication at Wayne State University, after having received an M.A. (1972) from Northern Illinois University. He earned an A.B. (1970) in government at the College of William and Mary. Mary Washington’s director of debate from 1989 to 1997, Dr. Morello is a knowledgeable source in the areas of televised presidential debates, presidential political campaign communication strategy, political commercials and political oratory, and can provide expert analysis of major speeches and televised political debates. He has written numerous articles for scholarly journals on these topics and also was a cofounder of the American Debate Association. He also has served as editor of the Virginia Journal of Communication.
