Especially for Education Students

Students who are gaining licensure in Secondary Education: English must take

several specific courses within or beyond the traditional English major:

 

British literature: English 381 or 382 or any 2 of the following: English 309, 310, 317, 322, 325, 326, 335, 336, 340, 342
American Literature: English 355, 356, 357, 358, or 385
World Literature: English 206, 350, 360, 361, 364 or special topics as approved by advisor in consultation with ELC department chair
Ethnic/Minority literature: English 328, 329, 352, 353, 354, or special topics as approved by advisor in consultation with ELC department chair
Literacy theory/criticism: English 295
Language and Composition:
Linguistics 101 and Linguistics 301, 302, 305, 307, 309, 310, 311, 312, 375, 470, 491, 492, or 499
English 307 (English 302 or English 306 may be substituted for 307 as approved by advisor in consultation with the ELC Department Chair)
2 Writing Intensive courses with an ENGL prefix (English 202 recommended)
Oral Language: Communication 205, 206, or 209
Communication Arts: English 200, 207, or 380 (note that English 380 is one credit; may be repeated up to 8 credits, 4 credits may be counted in the English major), Communication 481 or 482, Theater 111
  • Requirements for Added Endorsement in Speech Communication: English 6-12 licensure requirements/COMM 209/COMM 340.
  • Requirements for Added Endorsement in Journalism: English 6-12 licensure requirements/ENGL 200, 300, 301, and 380
