Dropping Classes

Dropping all classes (or the only class) for which you are registered:

Cancellation

Before the Official First Day of the Semester (which may be before the first day that your class meets)

  1. Submit a Cancellation form to the Office of the Registrar (Lee Hall 206).
  2. If you plan to return to UMW and have at least a 2.00 UMW grade-point average, you must also submit a request for a Leave of Absence to the BLS Office. After the deposit refund deadline, you may request a transfer of fees with your leave of absence request.
  3. Request a refund (before the deposit refund deadline) from the Office of Student Accounts.

Withdrawal

Beginning on the Official First Day of the Semester (whether you have attended classes or not)

  1. Complete a Withdrawal from the College form and a short withdrawal process in the Office of the Registrar (Lee Hall 206). The amount of refund, or payment due, will be determined by the date that you complete all withdrawal procedures. For specific information, see the refund schedule published in the Schedule of Classes for the semester. (Please note that if you have not paid tuition and fees, you will be charged a percentage at the time of withdrawal.) Beginning on the Official First Day of the Semester, there is no 100% refund. The financial penalty is 20% to 100% of tuition and fees depending on the date that you complete withdrawal procedures.
  2. If you plan to return to UMW and have at least a 2.00 UMW grade-point average, you must submit a request for Leave of Absence to the BLS Office.

Dropping one or more classes, but not all:

  1. Drop/add usually begins on the Official First Day of the Semester. To drop a course (not your only course), submit a Course Change Request (or later in the semester, a Course Withdrawal Request) in the Office of the Registrar (Lee Hall 206). For specific dates and refund information, consult the Schedule of Classes for the semester.
  2. You may not use a Course Change Request form or Course Withdrawal Request form to drop all of your courses. Those forms and procedures are only for dropping or withdrawing from part of your schedule of courses. To withdraw or drop all of your courses, see the instructions for Withdrawal.
