Advising Appointments

All students must meet with an advisor in order to register for classes for the next semester. BLS students who have not declared a major must make an advising appointment with Michael Howard. Appointments can be made through Starfish. See the following link for more information. Students who have declared a major should meet with their major advisor.

Preparing for Your Advising Appointment

When meeting with your advisor make sure to come with an updated hard- copy of both your unofficial transcript and degree evaluation. Both of these reports can be accessed through Banner self-service. You should prepare a list of possible courses for the following semester as well as a list of any questions you might have. Also, make sure to look up your registration appointment time before your advising appointment.

Registration appointment times are based on the number of completed credits. Your number of completed credits is listed on your unofficial academic transcript which is accessible through Banner. Student registration appointment times can be found on the Registrar’s webpage.

Once you have met with your advisor, you will receive a registration permission number (RPN). You will need this number to access the registration page in Banner. Please be aware only your advisor can provide you with your registration permission number.

Before registering for classes, make sure no holds have been placed on your record. You can view holds on your record through Banner/Student Records.

Frequently Asked Questions

When does advising begin?

Advising is always the two weeks following spring or fall break. Students are not required to see an advisor to register for summer courses.

What if I missed advising?

Students who miss the advising period must make an appointment with their advisor as soon as possible. All students must be advised prior to registering for fall or spring classes.

What if I missed my registration window?

Students who miss the window to register for classes must wait until the adjustment period, which follows the last day of registration. All returning students will receive the registration permission number (RPN) after meeting with an  advisor. Students will need the RPN when registering in Banner. See the following link for details.
