Internship

Internships offer valuable work experience and insight into a field. Depending on your interests and ingenuity, there are a number of opportunities available.

PROCEDURE FOR APPLICATION

Planning for an internship takes considerable time and thought, particularly if you select an organization new to the University as an internship agency. To facilitate the attainment of an internship, follow the steps outlined below:

1. Meet with your major advisor to discuss and determine your field of interest (your advisor may also recommend particular internship agencies at this time).

2. Visit Career Services on campus and select one or more potential agencies for your internship.

3. Choose a potential faculty sponsor (may be someone besides your major advisor) and meet with him or her to discuss your preliminary plans.

4. Contact or visit the internship agency and ask if an internship can be arranged. If so, inquire about the agency’s policies and expectations for its interns. Know what your responsibilities would be and the type of schedule you would keep.

5. Obtain an Internship Application from Career Services on campus. Verify you meet the minimum G.P.A. and credit requirements.

6. Meet with your potential faculty sponsor again. Discuss your proposed internship and secure his or her sponsorship. Confirm sponsorship before proceeding with the required paperwork.

7. Complete the application (which includes a section for the internship agency to fill out).

8. Submit your final application to your faculty advisor and Chair for signing.
